Trip Report: Wedding
Jul. 9th, 2006 12:35 amSatdureay I spent most of the day at the first wedding I have ever attended. It was an interesting experience, despite just being a lowly guest. Held at a Catholic Church somewhere in Akron, a frind of mine, the president of the KSU History Club when I first joined, was marrying her boyfriend of some 7 odd years. Of course, the entire experince started with the actual ceremony.
The church, St. Sebastians, was a newer one, and quite large on the inside. Having been brought up in a protestant household, the entire thing was qutie the experince, though much did conform to what I was expecting from a Catholic ceremony. The responces to various cues, memorizations of things we heritics read from the program, grand, ceremonial gestures (the high reverance shown towards the good, gold bound copy of the bible was my favorite). The entire thing, however, fell short of my chanting expectations as the chanters seem to have been replaced at this church by one of those new age bands type things that are all the rage in protestant churches nowadays, which was somewhat annoying, as those things tend to rub me the wrong way for reasons unbeknownst. Another interesting point about the ceremony was the differnce between the two alterkids (a male and a female) the male one was quite heave ho and into the entire things (especially the communion, whenre he seemd to hit the blood of the savior a bit long there) where the girl really just seemed to be going thorugh the motions, yawing on occasion.
So after a long two hour break, that was spent at the local mall remonding me why I buy much more online and at wal*mart nowadays, after the ceremony, the reception begain. I was sat in the corner with some friends of the bride from Wright State, Two attractive girls and a male, who were also in the Public History Masters program she was in. The normal speeces came up, with the best man's speech being somewhat deperessing, as it got me to thinking how I don't actually have anyfrind from before college. Then the rest of the night was spent with me making an ass out of myself, something I can do quite proficiantly, by dancing with the people at our table.
Overall it was quite fun, and the entire experince allowed me to break some of the nuerosis I still have remaining from my super-nerd days, since by the end of the night I was talking and dancing with females I had not know 5 hour before, even if they were quite unobtainable, living in Dayton and all. A character biulding and fun experince, however, is quite a nice thing to take away.
Now, off to sleep, as it is something I have not done in the past 23 hours.
